  1. 8K: a simple utility to control the AOR8000.
  2.  
  3. Welcome to Version 2.0.0!!
  4.  
  5. 8K is designed to provide an easy to use interface between your PC and
  6. your AOR-8000 hand held (radio) scanner. By using 8K you will be able to
  7. better manage the 1000 memory locations that are available to you. 8K
  8. provides a means of backing up the data in your scanner to disk files,
  9. this includes the memories, search banks, and the system memory that
  10. contains the Band Plan. 8K can also be used to upload a new system area,
  11. perform scanning via the computer, and search from the computer as well.

  17. *** Important Notes ***
  18.  
  19. 1) The format of the search banks files .sch has changed! The new
  20.    format now allows for the offset to be set.  You should download
  21.    your search banks with V2 and overwrite you pre-Version 2 files.
  22.    If you try and open an old search bank file it will *freak* out!
  23.  
  24. 2) It is recommended that if you are upgrading from a previous version
  25.    to remove the previous version BEFORE installing this version.  If
  26.    you do not you *should* have a different entry for this version
  27.    (8K V2.0) in the add/remove so things won't be so bad.

  29. 3) 8K is still shareware, I have spent A LOT time creating 8K and I ask
  30.    that if you use it that you register it - the price is right!

  32. *** Installation ***
  33.  
  34. Unzip the contents of the zip file(s) into one directory and run the
  35. setup.exe program.  Follow the instructions on the screen and you on
  36. your way!

  38. Some quick tips:
  39. - After starting for the first time, check the COM options under
  40.   Scanner -> Options, make sure your AOR8000 setup matches what is
  41.   selected (speed and CR/LF).  You can access these settings on the
  42.   AOR8000 by pressing the FUNC button the the LOCAL key, use the 
  43.   down arrow until you get to BPS and DELI then use the tuning knob
  44.   to change.
  45. - The settings will be saved when you exit.
  46. - Clicking on the traffic light opens/closes the COM port
  47. - Right clicking on background brings up scanner menu
  48. - I have included a copy of the U.S. Scanner News Un-Blocked system image,
  49.   it is called ussn.sys
  50. - I have also included ba.mem (Big A memory bank) and search.sch (Search
  51.   banks)

  53. Some info about this version of 8K:
  54. - 8K IS shareware (freely distributable), please see help file for more
  55.   information
  56. - The help file is not as complete as some may like
  57. - The saved memory, search bank and system memory files are in ASCII so you can 
  58.   import easily
  59. - Written in Visual Basic 5.0 Pro
